Delays and losses

NIK - highest Polish controlling body published a report about Poland's preparations for Euro 2012. It claims that "PL.2012", institution created to "coordinate" all works, employs 71 persons and 30 of them are managers (!). They spent 22 milion zloties last year. According to the report 2,7 milion have been spent without economical reason. They ordered some services from other companies instead of working on them on their own. "PL.2012" also purchased some services which does not seem to be neccessary, for example public opion poll for 154 000 zloties.

NIK researched activities of total 29 institutions engaged in Euro 2012. According to the documentation 40 per cent of investments are currently delayed. Poland will be on time with stadiums and other sports facilities. It looks worse when it comes to motorways, roads, railways, airports and hotels. Some of projects will be probably completed after Euro2012
However politicians claim that the report is based on years 2008-2009 and present achievements look much better and serious progress has been observed since that time.
- There is no need to worry. The main organizer of the Championship is UEFA and its reports praise the progress in works - said Mr Michal Listkiewicz, former Polish FA president who coordinates cooperation between UEFA and Polish institutions.

Qualifying games started

Spain and other top teams won their first games but France one more time shocked their fans and let down those who bet one them.
Spain crushed Lichtenstein 4-0 playing away, however probably nobody expected that champions coul lose any point or even a goal. France was again a favourite of their group but late strike by Sergiej Kislak showed that Les Bleus are in still in serious crisis. It was first competitive game of Laurent Blanc in charge.
On the other side of the Channel "Three Lions" showed that it is not so bad with them. England beat Bulgaria 4-0 after outstanding performance of Jermaine Defoe who scored three times. One must remember. Defoe postponed a groin operation to line up for England - I am glad I didn't have it now - said the striker.
Germans won in Belgium after Miroslav Klose's 53rd goal in 102 international appearances. Klose, 31, mentioned before the match that he may try to continue to play international football until the 2014 FIFA World Cup and we believe it is possible.
Shocking news came from Guimaraes were Portugal was only able to achieve draw with Cyprus. The opening game in Group A was finished with 4-4 score, when Andreas Avraam netted in 87. min. Portugal played without injured Ronaldo, however it seems they are another "favourite" in crisis.

Dissatisfaction in Krakow

The decision about host cities in Poland caused negative emotions in rejected cities, especially in Krakow. It was best prepared of all 12 cities, it is well known in the world and it is experienced in organizing major events.

However Krakow was put on reserve list in Poland 2 years ago due to political reasons by ruling party Law and Justice and then kept in this position by present leading political force in Poland - Civic Platform.

Its leader and Prime Minister, Donald Tusk, comes from Gdansk and his deputy from Wroclaw - two other Polish cities which will host EURO matches.
